The difference in the education system in China and in UK

The education system in China: In China, the government introduces the nine years compulsory education, which means that students have the responsibilities to attend school for 9 years. Students start school at 6 or 7 years old, and they have to attend primary school for 6 years, when they graduate from the primary school, they have to continue to attend middle school which need them three years to graduate. When students graduate from middle school, they have the option that they can either continue studying or working. If middle school graduated students’ final low, they can go to private high school, polytechnic school or 5-year- College to continue their study. Otherwise, they can go to high schools to study. For those who graduate from high school, they can attend university if they reach their favorite universities ‘enrollment mark. Otherwise they may go to the 3-year-college to continue study. For some people who have already worked, they can also continue their study by self-taught examination to get their qualitification from universities. The postgraduates in China usually have to study for 3 years, and students who want to get the Doctor’s degree have to study another 3 years or more. In China, all students have 2 terms and two holidays which are summer holiday and winter holiday a year.
The education system in UK:Education in UK is free for all children between 5 years old and 16 years old. Children start primary school at 5-yea-old,they graduate from primary school at 11.Students then have to attend secondary school to study for another 3 years. They graduate from secondary schools in 16-year-old.After graduate from secondary schools, 2/3 students work, and the other 1/3 students continue their studies. For those who want to continue study, they have to accept the further education, they can choose academic route to study to extend their academic knowledge, and they can also choose the vocational route to study in order to apply their potential skills. After students finish their further education, they can then continue their higher education to gain their Bachelor’s degree, which is usually a 3 year programme. After getting the Bachelor’s degree, students could go on to study one year of postgraduate to gain their Master’s degree. And after that they can continue to learn 3 years for their Doctor’s degree. In UK, all students have 3 terms a year, but their holidays between the terms are short.

Nice trip on Last Friday

Last Friday,we went to Cardiff  Bay with our teachers to visit the National Assebly Buliding. Before we entered the building we had to be body-checked by the polices there. When we came in,everybody was very nice,we took pictures with them.A worker there taught us lots of useful information. We really learnt a lot,so I think I was very happy that day and thanks to my teachers--Jeanette,Emily and Annabel. Now I would like to tell something that I leart on last Friday.

The Senedd is also called  National Assembly building, houses the debating chamber and three committee rooms for the National Assembly for Wales in Cardiff ,it was opened on 1 March 2006 by Queen Elizabeth II,it is not only the building for Members, but also for our common people.I love the design of the  wood ceiling,I think it like the waves of the sea.All of us thought it was gorgious and magnificient, the building has three floors, and the worker said that the first and second floors are accessible is to the public and the ground floor is a private area for officials,we watched the short movie which was only prepared for us in the meeting room on the second floor,I asked the worker who guide us what is sustainable building,he told me that the building we were visiting is a green building,it used welsh wood materials , minimal energy consumption and the use of renewable technologies ,it is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle: from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition. This practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability, and comfort.

We like the debating chamber most.It The debating chamber is the hub of the Assembly building.it is a place where ministers have meetings, the glass wall is transparent, during their meeting, everyone of us can d and listen,we can question the ministers and we als could see how they debate to each other. The minister just sit in the middle of golden desk, and other ministers who are in charge of education, economy, politics, health, ect sit with circling him.File:Debating Chamber.jpg

There are full of arts in the building, for example ,let's look at the acoustic panels. The artist Martin Richman was appointed to work on adding colour to the new building. The project focuses on the architect's widespread use of fabric-covered acoustic absorption panels throughout the building. The artist has worked on approximately 270 out of the 600 or so panels throughout the building. The artist worked on a room by room basis, the panels working as a complete set to create a specific look for each room. The panels are dyed and painted; Martin Richman also worked closely with the architects to select a base colour for the remaining panels. Cywaith Cymru. Artworks Wales

Let's look at Cabinet today!

We already know what is the government and the politicans.  We know that a government is the organization, or agency through which a political unit exercises its authority, controls and administers public policy, and directs and controls the actions of its members or subjects.A politician or political leader  is an individual who is involved in influencing public policy and decision making.Today I want to say something about the Cabinet.

Cabinet is a group which is responsible for making decisions on council services which effect us.It has 9 councillors which include the leader of the council. The Cabinet receives reports from the relevant officers and then decides how services are to be provided within the policy framework agreed by the Full Council. It is open to the public.Every people could attent the meeting and couraged to put forward their points of view.the Cabinet plays an important role in British government, it determines the problems that concern the government as a whole and attempt to solve them in the most effective way.so it is clear that how important the Cabinet is!The Cabinet meets once a week, usually at 4.00pm in the afternoon. It put the information about the content of the meeting they are going to hold.We can know what is the meeting about from the agenda.. In cabinet's agenda are included the most important issues of Parliament Business, Foreign Affairs, and the major economic decisions. If we want to know more details of the meeting we are going to attend,we can contact Scrutiny and Governance with e-mails or phone them.(Email: scrutiny.governance@kirklees.gov.uk  tel: 01484221700),so I think it is a good choice to go and listen, that would be really interesting and we also can gain lots of information.

However,Most of the Cabinet ministers are depended from their Prime Minister who is the most powerful person in the Cabinet.beacuse Cabinet ministers want to stay in cabinet for long, they will have to support blindly their Prime Minister's and his inner circle's decisions. but, most important decisions are taken by the Prime Minister and his or her "inner circle ".

~~Diary about MP that I've learnt today~~:)

MP is a member of Parliament.Specifically,it is a member of the House of Commons.MP is selected by residents of the districts he/she is reperensent. If a person want to be selected to be a MP,one must be a British,or the citizen of the Commonwealth nation, one can also from the Republic of Ireland.Candidates must be over 18-year-old,and have not bankruptes before, but for some people, residents have to elect them because their positions.Candidates have to pay 500 pounds for deposit before the selecting,if they get 5% of the whole ballot papers,he or she can get the money back,If not,the money cannot be get back.A MP cannot resign his or her job from the House of Commons because they have agreed to serve for the constituency.MP's responsibility is to help residents to live better, anyone who live in Britian can tell their MP their own problems, and their MP will try to help them to solve the problems. The position of a MP is very important, they scutinise government by asking minister questions, the tell residents'problems in their constituency to the ministers. The ways that people contact to their Mps are such a lot. They can e-mail their MPs,they can write letters to their MPs,they can also meet their MPs in person. If they know their MPs are sitting in the House of Commons, they could go in and wait for them, but the best way is to make an oppointment with their MPs in advance when they want to see their MPs.

Gun Powder Spot and Bonfire Night, like it!

Today,I will tell you a story which is called Gun Powder Spot.It is very popular in Great Britain.

After the Queen Elizabeth died in 1603,Catholics who had been persecured under her rule hoped her successor James I could be more tolerant of their religin, but it seemed that the King was not as tolerate as Elizabeth. So a number of young men that were probably 13 person wanted to kill the King as well as the Wales princess. They planned to blow up the House of Parliament.Under their leadership of Guy Fawes, the 13 people prepared 36 barrels of gunpowders and stored them in a cellar under the House of Lords. It was very clear that this plot would kill many innocent people and also kill those who fight for the right for Catholics. So some of these conspirator had the second thought, they changed their ideas...They sent an anoymous letter to their friend Lord Monteagle, warning him to stay away from the Parliment, but the warning letter reached the King, the King called his people to kill Guy Fawkes. So this leader was tortured and executed in early hours in 5th November.People were very happy that their King was saved,so on the very night of November 5th 605,bonfires was alight for the celebration of the safety of the King.People made a dummy which is Guy Fawkes and burned it in effigy. So this day was called The Bonfire Night. So today's Bonfire night we spend has a real story from ancient time.

Bonfire Night is very popular in the south east of England,it also attracts hundrerd thousand of people all over the world to participate.Children ask money for their parents to buy fireworks to play.Bonfire Night now is not only celebrated in Britain,it's tradition across the oceans.Today,in the night of Noverber 5th,people in New ealand and Canada also celebrate.

So,I'm just wondering, how does the Bonfire Night in Cardiff look like?!

Interisting Halloween~~

Today,I will talk someting about Halloween in two parts: first, the history of Halloween.Second, how do people in UK celebrate this day.

Halloween is a holiday which is celebrated on 31th October. The featival of Samhain is a celebration in the end of a harvest season  in Gaelic culture. On this day,Gaelic people take stck of supplies and prepare for the winter. They think that on Samhain day, living people and dead ones would overlap together, and then big deseased will come such as sickness or damaged crops...So on this day, ancient people spent with bonfire to drive the evil away, and people wear costums and masks to mimic and appease monsters.

In UK,children ask treats for the houseowners near their neighbourhood.Kids ask,"trick or treat?"If houseowners don't give them candies, they will give houseowners the "tricks" .People also carve pumpkin to make it like a face, and put lantern in it,the pumpkin is called Jack-o-lanterns.In Irish legend, there was a man calles Jack who could neve go to heaven cause he is a mister, and he couldn't go to hell cause he played jokes on the evil,so he has to go to earth on his day of judgement.People in some places of UK jump over fire to bring themselves good luck.English people also wear costums as ghosts,in this way the ghosts will mistake people as their fellows andthey will not be hurt.

WEEK11

Time flies.

I have been here for two weeks,I like Treforest I think.I would like to write something about waht I know about here.

Weather.the weather of England is changable. The first day I went here,I met a kind lady who's from London. She talked lots of things about England, she thought the weather here is terrible. But I don't think so.The rain here is like the snoe in China,I like the feeling of snow- falling,I like snow.In my Chinese name, the meaning of 'Xue 'means snow.Snow is so pure and simple, just like me myself. My father always says that for girls, being simple is good.

People.People are nice here. They are helpful and friendly. In China,we don't smile to the people wo don't know.In Treforest,I think teachers and classmates are good,wo are just like a whole family.

Food.I am not customed to the food in restaurant ,so I buy vegtables and fruits and cook them at home,I'm always satisfied with my cooking.

Environment.I like the learning environment. It's quiet and the eqquipment here is good too.

I want to learn all the courses well, and to improve every day.

Whish me good luck in Wales!
